To go to Sun Moon Lake from Taichung:
You may take bus 6670, schedule here.
There is no need to buy extra bus ticket, can just use easycard (the public transport card that can be used in taipei too), the cost is around ntd 73.

There are various route, especially if you want to go to Formosan Aboriginal cultural village via sun moon lake ropeway, u need to go to ida thao pier, or take 6670 bus type A. The bus does not come very frequent, so pls do check your timing.
If you want to take boat, one way is ntd 150/pax, round trip is ntd200, while if you want to go hop on off in the official ticket counter is ntd 250.
The ticket to formosan aboriginal cultural center contains the sun moon lake ropeway, can buy from klook, its cheaper.
I think it is worth to go to formosan aboriginal village as it is big, interesting and it also has fun rides like theme park at the spanish coast area, esp if you have kids, can go there 1 whole day.
If you want, would be good if u can spend the night in sun moon lake, to explore the lake and its surroundings as they have many interesting snack shops like in the night market.
